REQUESTING YOUR ASSISTANCE! 2014 Homeless Demographics and Needs Survey for Louisiana
The Northlake Homeless Coalition requests your participation in the annual Homeless Demographics and Needs Survey. Information collected from this yearly “snapshot” is vital for future recommendations for the southeast Louisiana Continuum of Care (comprised of Livingston, St. Helena, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, and Washington Parishes), as outlined by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Your agency has been identified as an essential service provider to the homeless and precariously housed and, therefore, needed in the successful completion of this year’s survey. Because it is a “point-in-time”, we are interested in learning about persons’ housing situations on the NIGHT OF JANUARY 27th. Information should be collected during a four day period, beginning Tuesday, January 28th and ending January 31st, 2014.
A survey may be completed in one of three ways. Ideally, agency representatives and/or volunteers will conduct an interview with a known client or a person who may be homeless, as the survey instrument is designed to have direct input from homeless consumers. In cases that an agency representative has previous knowledge of a homeless consumer and can provide the requested information, he/she may elect to complete the survey on the client’s behalf. Finally, a homeless consumer may wish to complete the survey on his/her own. In this case, an agency representative should review the document with the client, and then review for incomplete or inconsistent responses once he/she has finished. If people are unwilling to wholly complete the survey, record as much information as possible.
A survey questionnaire template(s) is attached to this email, along with instructions that should help guide you through the process. The template lists the regional number, parish name, and program name, where appropriate. A blank copy of the survey is also included, if it is needed. Please print the necessary number of copies that are needed to complete a survey on each adult within a household that is identified as having been homeless on the night of January 27th. If the household has persons under the age of 18, designate an adult as the head of household, and record information about the children on the head of household’s questionnaire. For more details, please consult the enclosed instructions. Again, we ask that you administer the survey Tuesday, January 27th through Friday, January 31st , while citing the 26th as the night of homelessness.
